1. The Owner Moves, the Machine Does Not
A principal with a main residence, a winter home, a country estate and a yacht lives across several places. A sovereign AI bolted into one room of one house serves that room.
There are two obvious answers, and both have costs. One is to leave the assistant behind and manage without it. The other is to reach the home machine from elsewhere, which keeps the system in one place and the owner at the end of a connection. A third answer is to have the assistant present where the owner is.
2. Two Ways to Be Away
Reaching home. SARION Appliances extend to mobile apps that reach the home system through a private VPN tunnel. The owner can use their assistant while travelling, and the connection never routes through a third party's servers. The AI stays on the owner's infrastructure and only a secure tunnel back to it leaves.
Taking the assistant with you. Beyond a tunnel to a stationary machine, a SARION Appliance can migrate the owner's actual container to another piece of hardware, anywhere, without anyone transporting the original unit. The system can be replicated to hardware at a second location, so the assistant is running there and not merely reached remotely.
Both options have a place. The first suits a short trip. The second suits a season at another property.
3. What Migration Achieves
At the level of what it does for the owner:
- The assistant is present and running at the second location.
- When the owner returns home, the database synchronises, and every conversation held while away is current on the home unit again.
- The owner's AI travels in substance, even though the original machine never leaves the room it is installed in.
We do not describe the technical mechanism behind this, in line with our general rule on implementation detail. We discuss it directly with clients.
The assistant follows the owner. The data stays under the owner's control at each end, and nothing in the arrangement requires a third party's platform to hold the conversation in between.
4. Decisions Before You Travel
Migration is a capability to plan around, not a button to press at the airport.
- Which second sites? Name the properties and vessels where a replica will run, and the hardware that will host it.
- Whose hardware? The second-site hardware should be under the owner's control. A replica on equipment the owner does not control gives away the point of the exercise.
- Who can enter the second site? Local staff, agents and managers have access to buildings. The replica needs the same discipline as the original: a controlled room and named access.
- How long is the stay? For a few days, remote access may be enough. For a season, a resident replica makes sense.
- What happens at the end? Decide how the replica is retired, wiped or retained when the stay finishes.
5. Synchronisation and Its Questions
Synchronising on return is what keeps the home unit authoritative, and it raises questions an owner should put to us in consultation.
- What happens if both units were used while apart?
- Who decides which version of a shared item wins?
- How is the home unit protected during synchronisation?
- What does the owner see if synchronisation is interrupted?
We cannot answer these here in general terms, and nobody should commit a critical workflow to an arrangement that has not answered them in detail.
6. Security Does Not Travel Automatically
A second site changes the threat picture. Properties differ in staffing, in the networks around them and in the people who pass through. A replica in a rented villa has a different exposure from one in the owner's own house.
Before relying on a second site, an owner should review physical access, the local network, power and heat, and the jurisdiction the hardware will sit in. The questions in our briefings on air-gapped infrastructure and on specifying hardware for a residence apply equally to the second location.
7. Availability
Portable migration and mobile access are advanced features available on SARION Regent and SARION Sovereign. To discuss how they fit an owner who lives across several properties, contact us at volta.quest.
